Chartered with Congressional approval, Acacia Federal opened for business as part of the Acacia Life Insurance Company in 1984. The bank initially operated out of corporate offices on Louisiana Avenue in Washington DC, just down the street from the US Capitol. Soon after the bank relocated to Annandale, Virginia, before settling into its current location in Falls Church, Virginia, in 1995.
